Vision for Hope4Haiti…
My name is Emily Howard. I’m 16, and currently studying year 12.
I’ve been watching and reading the news about the terrible conditions in Haiti recently, and I want to do something about it.
At first, I didn’t feel like I could make much of a difference – what could one teenager’s $20 do for Haiti, anyway? Probably not the best attitude in the situation, but nonetheless, that’s how I felt, and I’m sure there are many other people who would feel the same.
However, later on in the week, I began talking about it with my parents, and we came up with this idea: to have a benefit concert to raise money for Haiti. We’d get the community involved (from families and individuals, to businesses and churches), and as a result we’d be assisting a community in Haiti, as well as waking up our community to this tragedy which so many people have already forgotten about.
For this event, we will be partnering with Compassion Australia, who have been doing incredible work in Haiti, searching for the missing, and caring for the injured. I believe that, as a community, we can make a significant contribution to helping the situation in Haiti.
I’d like to challenge you – whether you’re a company’s CEO, a student, a mother, or a child – to contribute anything you can to this cause.
I also like to invite you to join us in a night of celebration, on March 6th, as we bring our fundraising efforts to a finale at Spring Lake Park, where we will be enjoying some live music, and presenting the funds raised to Compassion.
Sincerely,
Emily Howard
